If you play on the lowest difficulty settings then the missions won't be overly difficult but make enough manual saves just in case. Try not to just complete the mission objective as fast as possible but also try to build a good economy with happy subjects, this is because you will return to your previously built islands for new missions. There are 3 different islands to choose from, although not every island can be used for every mission. Before the mission starts you get an opportunity to choose an island.
